These fighter craft are actually large droids. They are able to battle in deep space as well as in planetary atmospheres. In attack mode, the droids' sleek wings open to reveal hull-puncturing laser cannons. In walking mode, the wings reconfigure to allow the droid to walk on four legs. Stored in hanging positions from ceiling girders of Trade Federation battleships, droid starfighters resemble a colony of cave creatures. Each droid starfighter is indeed part of a collective, as the central Droid Control Ship computer is the actual "brain" that controls all the vessels. Droid starfighters are expensive to make, but their reputation as mindless killing machines strikes fear into defenseless populations. |
